This is a detail from a Black Widow splash page I recently drew for my portfolio. I could spend my life drawing sexy espionage stuff like this. Probably stems from my adoration of the Connery-era bond. That, and my unhealthy ponytail fetish.
how did u get the pencils so clean do you lightbox over a sheet that pretty much has all the detail covered? or did u digitally tidy it? or are you just that awesome?
Alright Ben! I draw a pretty loose thumbnail layout, then scanned that and blew it up to full size on my mac. Then printed that out and used the lightbox to transfer the construction in blue pencil onto a new board(sometimes I'll just print the blue layout straight onto the bristol board and draw over that). Then I just start working away on the actual pencils, using the blue as a guide. I also just use a heel-sheet as I go so I don't smudge anything. It's a pretty anal method, but y'know, if the shoe fits.
cheers man! been working on my finishing a lot l8ly, hearing this kind of stuff helps! I've been lightboxing the crap outta my pages for the last age and a half n still not quite getting the result I'm looking for. And i dont want to keep having to go back to the computer to achieve it, I'd like to be able to get it traditionally as well. Thanks a mill.
Nobody did sexy espionage better than Connery.
