Art for Japan : Kodama.... Many, many Kodama

EDIT: Ricardo, my housemate has asked can he add his drawing to the auction so here it is.

Um.... I tried about 4 or 5  different images, I even finished a couple of others, but I kept on coming back to this image in my head. I couldnt shake it. People who dont know what it is may find it confusing but I'm hoping that people who recognise these little guys find them charming.

The piece along with the others will be auctioned off next week once all the pics are up. I spent one of the best months of my life travelling all over Japan and had a great time in what is such a beautiful country.

Art For Japan: "Strength"

Apologies for sticking up a single panel. Don't think i've ever done that before, but i don't have a piece for this week as i'm in the middle of a 3-page charity anthology story for Japan. I'll offer the original pages up for charity, though I doubt anyone will want to buy 3 story pages when they could have a nice illustration, like Mooney's Metal Gear Solid piece yesterday. Sure, we'll see.

Art For Japan: Metal Gear Solid

Here's my piece for the Eclectic Micks 'Art for Japan' auction: Metal Gear Solid. I'm a big fan of the action/stealth series and it's fantastically overwrought dramatics. My favourite aspects of the games lie mainly in the outstanding character/vehicle/location design by series art-director, Yoji Shinkawa. And of course the man behind the entire concept, and director extraordinaire, Hideo Kojima. Two legendary Japanese gentlemen in my book.

I'm not sure as to the specifics of the auctions yet, Will's probably the man to sort that out, but I do know that all the lads' pieces this week are gonna be up for sale, with all proceeds going directly to the Land of the Rising Sun.

Everybody loves dolphins by Stephen Thompson

Here's a weird one based on an idea by Simon Spurrier. I'm sure this'll turn up in one of his Marvel books at some point.

RED HULK

While drawing T-Bolts for Jeff Parker, i've also been following his work over on Hulk with Gabriel Hardman. I was never really into the Hulk, but I really like what Jeff is doing on the book, and the work Gabe is doing is just gorgeous, especially with the colour work of Bettie Breitweiser. I heartily recommend it.

Anyway, I don't think i ever really did a decent Hulk piece, so I thought i'd give it a shot. Jordie is colouring some stuff for Boom, so i'm trying to get her to colour as much stuff of mine as possible before she gets too busy.

Cry Havoc

I was looking through my old Jim Lee comics for inspiration(still some of my most oft-perused books, twenty years later) when I came across the 'X-tintion Agenda' issues, with all the really cool design-work on the Genoshan magistrates' uniforms and vehicles. It was the first time I'd encountered Havok, and still think that this was the coolest outfit he ever sported, moreso even than the classic so-black-it's-basically-a-silhouette costume.

I really was trying to get this finished before the midnight deadline. But lest it turn into a pumpkin, I decided I better get it up here.

Zombie Cobra Commander

I did this for IDW's Infestation sketchbook recently. I grew up reading Action Force, the British version of G.I Joe. It neatly bridged the gap between all the b&w war comics I'd been reading and American superhero stuff for me.

BANSHEE 2.0

Sorry; I never read G.I. Joe, never watched it and never bought the toys so i didn't bother with this week's theme.

Instead, i thought i'd do something Paddy's Day related. I decided to revisit the Banshee I designed last year (tweaked the gloves/boots a little and added facial hair) and now that i'm doing Marvel work, maybe... *JUST MAYBE* they'll see this and think about bringing him back. As a bad-ass. And let me draw him!

I live in hope.

Yo Joe!

Couple of test pieces I did for IDW last year for their Gi-Joe line. Hopefully I'll get to play in that sandbox a little this year, as I've been a big fan of the Joes ever since I were a nipper.
Snake-eyes v Storm Shadow all the way.

Pre-Paddy

As we approach Saint Patrick's Day - always our nation's proudest vomit-caked moment - I thought I'd inflict this upon you. A photograph of a dear chum of mine during a recent session of Racial Dress-Me-Ups. Good times.

DAKEN: DARK WOLVERINE

News came out last week that Rob Williams is the new ongoing writer on Daken: Dark Wolverine, so I thought I'd try my hand at drawing him. Congrats Rob!

With the background, I wanted to break up the fingerprint dust technique with a different element, so I tried experimenting with line for the more distant background. I'm not sure if it worked, but I thought it was worth trying.

Assembling The Avengers

Wow, this birthday snuck up on us, huh? Here's the least-embarrassing, almost-complete image I have to hand; a work in progress image of them Avengers.

Thanks to everyone for visiting us over the last couple of years. You provide us with the kick up the arse some of us (me) desperately need.

Birthday Bonanza

Well, two years ago to this day, Mooney posted the first daily blog piece for our blog. It literally started off as just an excuse for us to get each other drawing, I dont think any of us expected it to last two years and produce over 700 art posts and two sketchbooks

I came up with the idea a few weeks back that it might be a nice idea for the birthday to showcase some of that talent thats around the country

First up is Paul Reck
You can check out his work at odingraphics.deviantart.com

Heres CIT Multimedia student (my old college course) Chris O'Halloran

Next up is Cormac Hughes, one of the Sketchpaddys

If I somehow miss-spelt your name or got your link wrong, or more importantly, didn't post up your image yet then please email me and send me a reminder. My internet has been extremely dodgy of late
Thanks to all who entered, its great to see the large interest in comics in the country

And we have a late entry from Hilary Lawler

THUNDERBOLTS

Hey all. Seems this week is the Eclectic Micks blog's second birthday. Happy birthday blog! I celebrated by doing a big ol' Thunderbolts piece. Very strange to think how much has changed since we all started the blog 2 years ago.

While i'm at it, i might as well point to an interview i did on CBR on my new Crossbones one-shot, and let ye know my latest issue of T-Bolts (a spotlight issue on Man-Thing) is out tomorrow. Preview here.
