The Punisher

So it's the best part of the week again, Thompson Thursday. And here's everybody's favourite sexagenarian killing machine, Frank Castle. If you get a chance check out Goran Parlov's amazing art on the last few arcs of Garth Ennis's Punisher series, he's probably my favourite comic book artist at the moment. Plus kudos to whoever at Marvel thought to put such a cartoony artist on a gritty book like The Punisher, can't have been an easy sell but it works like a charm.

This may be my favourite Thompson piece to date sir. All the rendering is great (haggered face, dead eyes) and i like how you used the zip-a-tone, or, *didn't* use it in places in fact.

Will make it very hard to do a Punisher piece of my own.

I like this a whole lot too. Something very Ben Oliver circa Punkture about it...

Heh, yeah. The better man won there, methinks. And Dec you could always draw the Punisher in an interesting pose. That'd trump my front-on, face shot.

I dunno...

Lots to be said about the simplicity of a straight on portrait...

Sweet job, really nailed that jaded look on him.

Great stuff Tommy

Looks good Thompson! Is it weird/bad that I think he looks like an old Tobey Maguire?

Will Sliney said...

He actually does. Eclectic Micks Unintentional Likeness number 1

I do find Tobey Maguire intensely creepy in a serial killer kind of way. If he could put on about 100 pounds of muscle he'd be perfect casting.

Will, wasn't your Cu Chullain really the Unintentional Likeness Number One? Unless you MEANT him to look just like you...?

Dec.

I used a mirror for the figure-work on my Siryn. And I played Bonzo Moon on stage, so it's all a load of wank really.
Unlike this drawing. I'm a big fan of the Frank and yours does nothing to prveent this. Top balls, Tombles. You really know your shadows. (Is Hank Marvin your favourite?) Did you you use real zip-a-tone, or computery stuff?

Man that cuchulain doesnt look a bit like me. Im way more ripped than that.

I'm more of a Bruce Welch man myself Nick. And that screen-tone is 100% fake PhotoShoppery of the highest order. The real stuff is just too expensive.

Thats a class and mean looking Punisher!

Ripped clothes, right Will?

I must ask how you did that zip-a-tone at some stage Thompson. Did you go back in photoshop and wipe out those highlights?
