Doodles I Did Doodle

Bit pressed for time this week, so I'm posting literally the closest thing to hand. My heel sheet. These are the folded up pieces of paper I use so as not to smudge pencil-work, ie it sits under the 'heel' of one's hand as they draw. These small sheets tend to end up full of procrastination/warmup doodles. Usually weird heads and dudes with guns/swords in my case, or layouts/compositions for upcoming drawings.

Mojo Jojo

I was never a big fan of any of the Genndy Tartakovsky cartoons storywise, but I loved the design sense of the animation. I particularly liked the design of Mojo Jojo from the Powerpuff Girls so here's my take on him.

The Shapeshifting Master of Darkness

Powerpuff girls.... meh
Dexters lad..... pfft
Clone Wars.... pretty amazing
Samurai Jack...... Pure class

I actually think PPG was good. Its all relative to how amazing Genndy Tartakovsky's work is.
I have so many great memories from watching Jack.
The two that stick in my mind are the scene where he is sloooowly reaching for keys off a sleeping bad guy, and the episode where he climbs a mountain to find a secret at the top which will give him the strength to defeat Aku.
Amazing show.

Dexter's Laboratory joke

After nearly 2 years, i finally post a comic strip (albeit a badly drawn one) up here.

This joke has stayed with me and will continue to stay with me, a loooong time.

No Moon at Midnight/Jack The Lad

Dec here. Mooney asked me to apologise for the lack of posting today as he is currently Net-less. I repeat; Net-less.

He says he'll upload his post as soon as soon as he's up-and running again.

UPDATE: So I'm back online and here's my piece. As usual, I went with the lowest common denominator; Samurai Jack.

Mr Sandman, Give Me A Pen...

What-ho, Micklickers. This weeks' Roche Trip is brought to you my spindly-armed cohort and Victim-To-Be, Anne-Marie, seen here in a photograph I took earlier of her working up today's offering.

Anyway, over to her to talk all you guys through what she done did:

Well boy (and gurls) The night we first met there was a lot of the usual bullshit one spouts when trying to impress- 'of course I have all the Radiohead back catalogue' or 'Wow, I'm a massive Bowie fan too' and the biggest lie of all 'You like comics? Thats so interesting...' ( I realise now if I hadn't have told that particular lie my house wouldn't be infested with hundreds of plastic japenese toys with their beady little eyes staring at my every move...) He saw this lie as an invitation to foist his 'hobby' on me but thankfully he started with the girlfriend-friendly Sandman collection. In fact he gave me a graphic novel as part of his Christmas presents to me which was partly why I stayed with him for so long...I wanted to see how it ended. I hope you all forgive me for my fourteen year old angst ridden goob child impression of Dream but you can see now why he does the drawing and I don't.

If Mooney can do it, then i can copy him. As a special treat to you and me; there is a special guest this Tuesdec; it's my Jordie. Take it away Red....

I drew the Thunderbolts 148-149 arc in a single page.
I'm obviously far superior than Declan in every way.

Eclectic Chicks

I have a guest artist stepping in for me today to celebrate Love Week, my supercool wife Jackie. She likes Iron Man, and drawed him for me! Over to her:

Nothing says 'Happy Love Day' like drawing a crappy picture for your husband's art blog.   I DO love Iron Man however and not just because of Robert Downey Jr...really...ahem. As you can see from the picture there's a reason I have a 'proper job'.... this week's posts can only get better from here. ENJOY!!

Oh and before Stephen claims it, I came up with Eclectic Chicks.  I can't draw but I can pun.  Jackie out.

FIAAAHH BOMBAAAAH!

Hello. Procrastinated for ages on this, just because I couldn't face drawing a robot in my off-duty! I'm thinking of swearing off mecha for Lent.

But yeah, I too have never seen Robotech, though I came across Macross Plus aaaages ago. I used to read Anime UK (I think?) and when Macross 7 debuted, I - stereotypically - was drawn to the red-and-yellow fire themed Mech piloted by a rockstar. The VF-19 is basically the battroid version of Hot Rod. And here he is...

Good knowing Robotech/Macross/The Golden girls are all out there when I do feel I'm ready though.

UNCANNY X-FORCE

Apologies for breaking this week's theme; I just have no idea what a Robotech is and have no interest in finding out, sorry.

I'm on a mad X-buzz after reading the first 4 issues of Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña. It's bloody brilliant. I've lost track of what's happening in the X-world of late, but this is a great series that you can just pick up without having to know everything that's going on elsewhere.

Anyway; i really wanted to do an Uncanny X-Force piece this week. Sorry Mr. Robotech!

Robotech

Used to love this show growing up, seemed to tackle much more mature themes than the usual villain of the week stuff over on MASK or Transformers. I'm a huge fan of the mech-design throughout the show too. Devil-may-care pilot Roy Fokker, leader of Skull Squadron was my favourite.

THWIP!

I'll kill you all to work on Ultimate Spider-Man. I'm waaay behind on the trades, but I think I'd have to agree with Will about it being a high watermark for excellence over the last decade. Bendis always brings me back to being Peter's age and what matters to a sixteen-year-old any time I read them. Good schtuff.

Transformers: Infestation#1 is out this week! It's me, robots, zombies, Vegas...and Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. Surely you should? Then do.

Spider-Moon

Here's my finished Spidey sketch, couldn't get it drawn on Monday due to real life intervening.
Had good fun with it in the end, Spidey's a lot like Batman in that he's just flat-out fun to draw, and every now and again you've gotta doodle him just to scratch that fanboy itch.

Thanks to Thompson for the brief loan of his real-estate on the blog.

Spidey

Best comic of the last ten years. I coloured this reeeeally quickly, kind of in a test to see how it would come out.

ULTIMATE SPIDEY

Put a good bit of work into this piece. Took me aaages to decide on a pose. Wanted one to show off how slim he is, since in Ultimate Spider-man, Peter Parker's about 16. I think?

[EDIT; Jordie coloured this one too]
