ILLYRIA

I previously drew a character drawn by Nick Roche, so this week i thought i'd try my hand at one of Stephen Mooney's characters; here's ILLYRIA, from his Angel series.

Since my last two pieces were a little rushed and didn't exactly reek of effort, i thought i'd put a bit more time into this week's piece, and even colour it, as so far i'm the only Mick who hasn't posted an image with colour. Truth be told i used this as an opportunity to try and colourize the grey-wash effect i've been using of late, so i tried it out with Illyria's demonic effects. Found a ridiculously complicated way of doing it, so i'm going to find a better way, but it worked out okay as is. When i looked again at the black and white piece i still liked it as it was, so screw it, at no extra cost, here it is too....

Dude - I have a pretty cool technique for colouring line art in photoshop - it's a little complicated, but it's fast and lets you colour greywash neatly...

Cool, glad you like Mooney; this 'un was for you after all....

Hey PJ, thanks. I might pick your brain about how you colour greywash at 2D.

Will, that first link goes over my head a bit as it involves using Painter, but the forum link will help for sure, sound.

Aw man, I miss that series.
Great stuff as always, but how are you guys finding the time for this?! I can only assume you've drastically cut down on playing with yourself...

Never. Some things are just too precious Leigh.

You'd be surprised man; once you get into the habit it's not too bad. I generally spend a few minutes starting the piece on one day, then come back to it in a couple of days and finish it. Doesn't seem so time consuming that way.
