Well this one goes down as a colour experiment that didnt really work. I had something completely different in mind, but Ive just moved back to New York so I didnt have time to fully realise it. Ah well. Cool character though, I have a feeling well be seeing a lot more of him. TB is out today wohoo, Ill be picking it up today in Midtown comics

THUNDERBOLTS: SHADOWLAND

As ye all know by now, my debut Marvel work, Thunderbolts #148 is out this Weds (Stateside)/Thurs (UK/Eire). I wasn't sure what to draw for this theme week, but I noticed Marvel have done a lot of covers with the looming Daredevil figure incorporated in their Shadowland line. So, since my T-Bolts issues are part of the Shadowland crossover, i thought I'd try my hand at a Thunderbolts one. A kind of a 'what if I got to draw a cover' type thing.

Anyway, here it is.

I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who has been really encouraging about the upcoming T-Bolts issues, i really appreciate it, and to the fellow Micks for knocking something together for the blog this week. You guys are okay. Well, kinda.

Moonstone by Stephen Mooney

Here we go with another Theme Week, this time it's the turn of Declan Shalvey's stint on Marvel's Thunderbolts book, the first issue of which is in stores this wednesday(U.S.) or Thursday(mother country). Buy several!

I was assigned the good lady Moonstone(hint's in the name I guess) to draw, and that suited me fine as much like Barry White,  I love the sexy slither of a lady snake. Her costume is a tad generic to say the least, seemingly consisting of a white and gold body-stocking and mask. So I punched up the gold parts a bit, and went for a nice dramatic angle to try and make the shot a shade more interesting looking.
That, and boobs, obviously.

Ah, Morpheus. The Gateway Drug I used to switch my missus onto comics. Used to draw this posy sod all the time to impress 'er. Now I don't care. As evidenced by the Cintiq offering.

Under the Influence

Firstly, apologies for my general tardiness this month- it's been a rough one. Not a lot of time to spare, so I'm taking a leaf from PJ and spreading this wee meme he contracted .

It was fun to peel open the skull and rummage about, reconsidering your influences and where the fit in your head in terms of impact.

This is part of another abandoned sample from a few years ago. I've actually managed to recycle this sketch into an actual job I'm doing for DC at the moment. It's a a different character so I just kept the pose and general proportions.

Supergirl

Bit of a half-assed one this week(I'll finish it up properly for a future post. I've just noticed that the wind is blowing her hair up, while pressing her cape down. I'm an idiot.)as I spent most of my time on my piece for next week. The theme then will be 'Thunderbolts', as Dec Shalvey's first issue of said fine periodical 'drops'.

Getting Wrecked on My Birthday

Breaking my 'No Robots' rule again this week because I've got a book to sell. The TPB of 'Last Stand of The Wreckers' is out in comic shops, and will be in proper bookshops next week. (On Friday we reached the dizzying heights of number 55 in the Amazon Books>Comics>Graphic Novels chart! Not many can say that, right?

Anyway, the TPB collects the five issues of the critically-acclaimed Transformers series written by myself and James Roberts, and it is stuffed with more goodies than your mam on my birthday. (Which is today, so clear the decks) There's a ten-page prose story written by James called 'Bullets' which is essentially Wreckers #0, two new character prodiles writted and drawed by me, a '25 Things You Didn't Know About Wreckers', an ace pin-up by colourist Josh Burcham and some sketchy goodness from Josh and I to boot. We're really proud of this one, chaps, and can say with confidence that even non-TF fans will find this an accesible and fun read. But then, I would say that.

Here's a shot of out hunky-but-conflicted hero, Springer. Done for Forbidden Planet online, so there'll be a chance for YOU to win the original in the near future. I'll keep you updated.

I was tempted to post more 2000AD panels but here are some sketches for a new series of kid's books I'm working on. I've set myself the challenge to write, design, draw and publish to ipad within a month. I wrote the story on Sunday and diddled these up yesterday.



I'm a gig fan of Rodney Greenblat, the dude that designed Parappa the Rappa so I'm ripping him off basically.

Here's a page from a Dredd sample I never quite got around to finishing from a few years ago. I think drawing the Hall of Justice just drained all my enthusiasm. I do quite like the hologram of the baby though.
