PEEK
Howdy folks. May have mentioned i'm working on a Marvel thingy. Well, I've been doing some prep sketches but i can't show any of them yet, so in the meantime, here's a peek. Sorry; that's all i got this week.
Also you can here me talk (or not-really-talk) about it on the Comic Cast.

12 Issues Later
Decided to commemorate Dec's passing from the 28 Days Later book with a shot of Selena doing the do.
I'm not usually this sentimental, but I thought our Deckard did a bang-up job during his year on the title, and will go on to even bigger and brighter things. Very soon. Hint.

RIP Frank Sidebottom
I was always fascinated with Frank Sidebottom as a kid, sent him some comics years ago and he mailed me back. He died this week from lung cancer. Ah well.

'ZOMBIE BRIDE'
Something a little different this week. When scanning some layouts on my housemates scanner i noticed a discarded pencil drawing on her desk. Not much detail on it, mainly just the figure and 'Zombie Bride' scrawled lightly to the side. I asked her if i could ink it. So there's her pecilled drawing, inked by myself and then coloured by her. 'Her' being the talented Stacey Lee

3rd in 2D
The last of my non-robot 2D sketches, and I'll not sully this place with unnecessary robotics. The Third Doctor, Worzel 'Dad of Sean' Gummidge hisself, Jon Pertwee. Wayne, you can pretend this is a birthday present. If you want.
Nick
SEXY MOONEY UPDATE: This bad-boy should have been up yesterday, but it's my fault that it wasn't, not Nick Rock's. He had had it scheduled to go up, and had asked me to check in and make sure it posted on time(he's away at the mo y'see), and, well, I forgot. Sorry Nick, it's up now if that helps at all...

Time for your appointment with the Wicker Man...
Since we're coming up on the Summer Solstice and Mice Templar Volume 2.2 is coming out in July, it seemed a good time to give you all a gander at this illo I did for aforementioned title. Each book has a great little breakdown on the influences and real world sources for the Mice Templar story, so when the writer, Bryan J.L. Glass, suggested I knock out one for Samhain, I was happy to oblige. It was also a great excuse for me to break in the new Cintiq for the first time, so it was a win-win.

Hardcore Gorn
Sorry.
I got a mail from a lad asking me to do a commission of 'Kirk fighting the Gorn' and I politely declined. But I drew him this for free. Another fantastic instalment of my webcomic popping right now

Mad Man
So I thought I'd do another 'editorial' style illustration and Mad Men's Don Draper seemed like a natural subject 'cause he's just so damned smooth. I'm not a huge fan of Mad Men, I find it can get a bit soap opera-ish for my tastes, but it looks fantastic. I may have a bash at Roger Sterling next week as he's the best part of the show.

Under the Hood: Judge Dredd- Mindripper
After last weeks post, and the great response it generated, I decided to go again, but this time using a piece at the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of treatment.
My good friend from our Com.X days, Neil Googe, ocassionally drops by with a new gig for me, and I always try and fit him in, since his work is just so tasty. Neil's work is extremely clean and we tend to think the same way when it comes to knowing what fits his style. Simple, anime- style shading on the characters, with the real juice saved for the backgrounds, monsters and fx. I remember opening this and sitting for a good fifteen minutes working out how to handle sheer volume of detail and the various planes that would be needed to be cut into colourholds. As it was, the top splash ended up with at least five different areas, each colored separately, with various grads and smoke between to push the rubble about and let the artwork breathe. The baddie (a Mad Scientist made of brain tissue), got his own color hold, since he was both pulpy and thrumming with Psi energy (Google Image, as always a great lifesaver for nasty brain references).Once again, the floor is yours.
Micks at the Eagle Awards- reminder
If you've not lived under a rock for the past month, you'll know that Dec has been Nominated for Favorite Newcomer Artist and I've been Nominated for an Eagle Award for Favorite Colourist. My current gig, l'Histoire Secrete (earlier issues reprinted in the US as The Secret History) has also been Nominated for Favorite European Comicbook.
Voting closes at Midnight GMT on the 4th of July- so get clicking folks.

Covering fire!
Hewwo! Some sloppy uncleaned panels out of sequence from a new 2000AD story about a bunch of pinned down soldiers. What manner of weirdness will extricate their sorry bums?

Natural History Museum
The Dublin Natural History Museum re-opened a little while ago so I went along to do some sketching. We used to go there a lot back in college and it was quite a weird experience, returning to a place I know well, but haven't visited in years. It's pretty much the same except you're now greeted by a huge wall rather than the view of the giant Irish Elk. Plus the upper levels are still off limits until they figure out how to build a staircase that won't fall down and hurt people. I hear they have top men working on it. Top. Men.

2D Northern Ireland Comics Festival - Selena Kyle
Myself and Nick Rock are just back from the always-enjoyable 2D con in Derry, NI. We had a great weekend and as Nick said yesterday, were incredibly well looked after as always, by Dave Campbell and his Team 2D crew.
The great thing about 2D is that it's all about the kids, everything is free and geared towards the little 'uns. We sketched all day for the wee guys and gals, and they genuinely seemed to enjoy and be fascinated by the process. Great fun.
This is a sketch of Catwoman that legendary Norn Irish comic artist Will Simpson requested.
For some reason.
The fingers at the bottom of the pic belong to Nickelby, as he held up the drawing against a wall in the middle of town for me to take a snapshot.

2D or not 2D?
The answer is 2D.
Just back from the 2D comics festival in Derry, so a massive thanks to David Campbell and Garry Leach for pulling the thing together, Ciaran, Bobby and the crew for wrangling the hell out of us, The O' Reilly-Mooneys for being my Mam and Dad for the weekend, and all the ace new friends and fans we met. There was a lotta Wrecker-love going down, and it really made the last year feel worthwhile. Roll on next year!
So here's one of the non-TF images I was asked to do: Cammy from them there Street Fighter Games. A nice button-bashing change of pace she was too. Big thanks to Stephen 'All moon, No Dog' Mooney for grabbing pics of my sketches for me too. He is useful.

Under the Hood: Keltos#1
Work has continued to be a bugger on my back, but rather then go looking at some old stuff, I thought it might be interesting for you to take a look at the nuts and bolts of my day job, that of colorist. In common with most folks in comics, my family and friends often just don't get what I do for living, so maybe this will go some way to clearing the matter up. This page is from the Secret History spin off, KELTOS, which features all kind of Celticy-Arthurian goings on. Very enjoyable, but a lot of detailed painted work- nary a simple grad to be seen here. Any questions/comments are much appreciated.

Diddley Oi!
Did this jovial fellow for the front of a new energy drink becasue God knows the world needs another energy drink. In other news Dec missed a day this week. He must have been knuckle-deep or something.

Peacekeeper E.S.U.
Here's a reeeeealllly old one from a decade ago. Once upon a time Mooney's brainy brother created a computer game and a few of us did some character designs and the like for it. I think we even did some cut scenes too. I think this guy was supposed to be an assassin or something and all those panels on his outfit helped him turn invisible. I have no idea why he's posing like some half assed statue though.

HEROES Badges
Gonna be at the Heroes Convention in North Carolina this weekend. As an incentive for folks to buy sketches or artwork, i'm doing 30 little sketches and making them into badges, exclusive to Heroes and only for people who buy artwork. First come, first served. Thought it'd be an extra treat to anyone who's good enough to put money in my pocket. Here's 4 of the 30.
