Northlander

Yes I know real vikings didn't have horns on their helmets but I like how it looks. This was originally a pencil drawing I did years ago with the intention of painting it, but I never got around to it. I recently got my hands on the first volume of Northlanders by Davide Gienfelice and Brian Wood which inspired me to whip out the drawing and ink it up using real dip pens and brushes.

How long ago did you pencil it. It must have been mad inking your own old work. Did you make much changes to it?

This is great, lovely, immediate and visceral.
And horny.

I love the various textures of his 'cape'. You're able to keep a lot of that spontaneous mark-making when you work digitally, but i always prefer how much more versatile you can be with pen-and-ink.

This one is really incredible. I like how much energy you've managed to capture in the eyes, as most of the face is obscured by the face guard of his helmet. And the detail on all the rest is off the charts!

Nice. Very Frazetta-esque. Not just in subject matter but rendering and line quality.

Thanks everyone. It's not that old a picture, maybe four or five years, so it really wasn't that different from my current work. It was very tight pencils so mostly I was just playing with different mark making and trying to mess it up a bit.
